Full-time or part-time positions
Sorry, but Scribe does not currently have any full-time or part-time jobs on offer.
Outsourcing
Thank you for your interest; however, Scribe does not outsource any of its proofreading or other work.
So, you want to become a proofreader 'eh?
How to start a career in proofreading? Well, before you begin, identify if there is a need in your area. Proofreading is not a high volume operation in Australia. Do you have an established client base? Are there existing proofreaders making a profit in your area? Is there room for another?
A lot of people ask me about becoming proofreaders. Judging from their e-mails, though, many seem to lack the necessary skills with English to succeed at the profession. :-)
If you can define terms like restrictive clause and coordinating conjunction, give it a shot. If not, you'll need to develop your skills before trying to charge for them.
If all this hasn't scared you off then you need to consider qualifications. There are two main choices:
a formal qualification in journalism or something similar;
job experience as a technical writer.
Now at the risk of sounding like I'm selling something (and I am!), you might also want to take a look at my e-book "Editing and Proofreading". It covers all the essential skills you'll need.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Tim North
